Here's what Jeff believes the tech sector will bring us in 2021 Each year, I like to take an appearance at the big photo and predict what's just around the corner. Long time readers of my work know that I follow the most exciting tech trends on the verge of mass adoption.
These trends are experiencing rapid growth and creating extraordinary opportunities for financiers. I wish to make sure all our readers are gotten ready for what's next. And with that in mind, let me draw the image of what I see can be found in the next 12 months 1. 5G Gadgets Our brand-new 5G (fifth-generation) cordless networks are a subject I've been covering for years now.
Although the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains last year, an outstanding 250 million 5G-enabled gadgets were still offered. Especially in the second quarter, there were supply chain disruptions, manufacturing hold-ups, and work stoppages. And all of this ultimately caused Apple delaying the release of the 5G-enabled i, Phone 12 by two months.
And that need is now going to be pushed into 2021. I predict that more than 500 million 5G devices will be delivered in 2021.
Stage 3 of 5G When I have actually talked about 5G in the past, I have actually explained its 3 various stages. In Stage One, the infrastructure of these new networks is built out, including all the brand-new towers and fiber-optic wiring that 5G will require. In Phase Two, 5G devices go on sale.
And in Stage 3, 5G services start to be offered. That's when we begin to see applications running on 5G networks. And my second 5G prediction for 2021 is that we will begin Phase 3 by this summer.
However they will care if there are amazing applications that can just be accessed with a 5G phone. So increasingly more consumers will go out to purchase a 5G phone to gain access to these applications. That results in more 5G apps being developed. In reality, 5G is going to open a suite of amazing applications: self-driving cars, the Internet of Things, robotic surgical treatment, and more.
The financial investment opportunities going forward will be massive. 3. CRISPR Genetic Editing Stepping far from 5G, the next essential technology I foresee in 2021 is CRISPR hereditary modifying. CRISPR means "clustered regularly interspaced brief palindromic repeat." It's a mouthful. But it's one of the most amazing advancements in biotechnology.
